1969 – 2023
Heather Elaine Diggs age 53 of
Plattsmouth, NE passed away surrounded by her family and loved ones on Saturday, June 3, 2023 in her home, after a hard fought battle with cancer.
She was born on August 27, 1969 to Hugh David Diggs Jr. and his wife Donna Jean (Doss) Diggs in Fairfax, VA. Heather graduated from Millard South High School and then attended college, graduating with an associate degree in veterinary technology. After graduation, she worked as a Vet Tech in Omaha. Later, she worked at Streck Laboratory. Upon moving to Plattsmouth, she began working at the United States Postal Service, where she worked for over 20 years.
Heather's lifelong passion was to care for and rescue animals. Even along her mail route, she could be seen rescuing and/or returning lost pets to their homes. She worked tirelessly to spay and neuter cats to reduce overpopulation and nursed sick animals back to health, finding homes for too many to count. She had a huge heart and was loved by all who knew her.
Heather is survived by her significant other: Gary Hellwig of
Plattsmouth, NE; her parents: Hugh and Donna Diggs of Millard, NE; two sisters: Traci Diggs of St. Cloud, MN; Denise Lugar and her husband Dan of Des Moines, IA; three nephews: Kurt, Josh, and Drew Lugar, her niece: Ashley Johnson, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 P.M., on July 1, 2023 at V.F.W. Post #2543 in Plattsmouth.
Her Final Resting Place will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth.
