Heather McCreedy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cremation Society of Chittenden County on Dec. 8, 2025.
Heather Anne McCreedy, 61, of Burlington, VT, passed away on November 30, 2025 at Elderwood of Burlington nursing facility following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Heather was born in Burlington, VT on October 26, 1964, to Walter and Patricia (Londry) McCreedy, the youngest of four children. She graduated from South Burlington High School in 1982. Following graduation, she embarked on her life's work serving elders in various capacities through employment with several Vermont organizations, including Burlington Health and Rehabilitation Center, University of Vermont Health Network Home Health and Hospice, and the Visiting Nurse Association, in addition to working with private clients. Heather developed meaningful relationships with many clients over the years in her role as a Personal Care Attendant. Her life was enriched by these relationships in equal measure to the enrichment she gave to those she cared for.
Heather entered college on her own timeline, receiving her Associates Degree in Liberal Studies from Community College of Vermont in 2000, followed by a double Bachelor of Arts in Human Services and Psychology in 2003. It was during her Bachelor education that she discovered a love for art, an activity she enjoyed throughout the rest of her life. Another favorite pastime of Heather's was cooking; she loved to cook for others and served generously! In the latter phase of her career, she additionally worked in the Bakery department at Hannaford Supermarket, bringing her artistic creativity to cake decorating. Heather loved spending time with family and friends with favorite activities including sharing stories, playing games, baking and decorating cookies, crafting together, and meeting up to dine at various restaurants. She was a much-loved "Auntie" to her several nieces and treasured the times she spent with them. She also loved traveling the back roads of Vermont, with an eye for capturing the beauty of the state through photography.
Heather is survived by her brother Robert McCreedy and his wife Claudia of Jefferson, NH; sister Helen McCreedy of Waltham, MA; brother William McCreedy of E. Montpelier, VT; sisters-in-law Tamara Bassett of So. Burlington, VT and Lesley Bean of Plainfield, VT; and nieces and nephews Andrew (and wife Victoria) McCreedy and their 3 children, Erin (and husband Luke) Moser, Gillian McCreedy, Molly McCreedy, Jordan Moore, and Hannah McCreedy. She was predeceased by her mother Patricia McCreedy (2001), father Walter McCreedy (2008), and brother William's partner Amy Moore (February 2025).
The family would like to thank the wonderful medical staff at University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC), who provided such exceptional, heartfelt care to Heather over the past 3 years, especially Dr. Charlie Ashley, Dr. Hibba Rehman, Dr. Alzira Avelino, NP Katherine Bezio, Social Worker Stephanie Fraser, MSW of the Oncology department; and the incredible nursing staff of UVMMC's Infusion Center, with a special thank you to Amy and so many others-you shared so much light, love and laughter with Heather during every chemotherapy appointment. To quote Heather: "Never lose your sparkle!" Please keep sharing jokes (sometimes on repeat) with your loved ones in Heather's memory. We would also like to thank the staff of Elderwood at Burlington. Staff including aides, nurses, and social workers along with many residents became important people in Heather's life throughout the past years of her living there. Lastly, we would like to thank Sail Beyond Cancer for the memorable sailing trip on Lake Champlain in September, an experience that gave such joy to Heather and family during her ailing health. All acknowledged here, along with friends who lovingly offered the gift of your friendship to Heather throughout her cancer journey, joining in laughter as well as tears, were important people to her especially during the last chapter of her life.
A Celebration of Heather's Life will be held on Sunday, December 21 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at The Pines in the Adirondack Room, 7 Aspen Drive, So. Burlington, VT. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Heather's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Burlington, VT. Contributions can be mailed to Hope Lodge at 237 East Avenue, Burlington, VT 05401 or given on their website.
