Heather Prosky, beloved daughter of the late David and Edna, cherished wife of the late Dr. Leon Prosky, devoted mother to Melissa (Benjamin Nidus) and Rebecca, over the moon grandmother to Lilly, adored aunt to many nieces and nephews, and dear lifelong long friend to many, died of natural causes on December 8, 2024. She grew up in Arlington, Virginia and attended WL high school and the University of Maryland. She then earned her master's degree in Library Science, an emerging field, from Catholic University. Upon graduating, Heather worked at the DC Public Library and later, the US Information Agency. She and Leon met in the early 1970s and married in 1973, the same year as many of her close friends. This launched the venerated "Anniversary Club," a tightknit group of friends going on 50 years. Between the Washington Ski Club, summer beach shares in Rehoboth, and a love of the performing arts, Heather had an active social life that she and Leon shared during their 47-year marriage. Heather was also very involved in her daughters' schools and activities. She was the designated "room mother," the volunteer reading coach, the chaperone. She loved hosting Melissa and Rebecca's friends and kept up with many of them over the years. Heather loved traveling by boat and by train. If either was involved, she was all in, which meant many adventurous trips, including trans-Atlantic boat journeys and rail journeys across the country. She was a devout reader of all things, and in recent years, enjoyed listening to audio books, especially books about America's First Ladies (particularly Abigail Adams) and listening to childhood favorites like Little Women. She loved celebrating holidays, including hosting Thanksgiving and Passover, and always enjoyed a good party. Though she slowed in recent years, she always made sure to keep up with her correspondence as a way to stay connected with those she loved. Heather will be greatly missed. Memorial contributions may be made to your local public library or charity of one's choice.
