Helen Mae Barto, 87, of Goose Creek, SC, passed away on Sunday November 5, 2023.
Born on January 15, 1936 in Charleston, SC, she was the daughter of Ruby Nix Huthmacher and George Huthmacher.
Helen was very family-oriented and loved to spend time with her grandkids. She worked at Elams Pest Control alongside family. She loved the outdoors and being spontaneous. She loved going boating and swimming. Helen adored her dogs and would love to take all the grandkids on vacation in the camper. She was big into traveling with her son. She traveled to Germany and loved talking about all her traveling adventures. She would infect people with her contagious laugh. Helen was fearless and enjoyed doing all sorts of activities. She was full of life and will be dearly missed.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Allen Barto; parents, George Huthmacher and Ruby Huthmacher; and siblings: George Huthmacher, Chris Huthmacher, and Roy Huthmacher.
Helen is survived by sons, Hugh Grady, Jr. (Sylvia) and Larry Elam (Diane); grandchildren: Christy Elam, April Elam, Craig Elam; as well as great-grandchildren: Charlie Anderson, Drake Anderson, and Luke Anderson. She is also survived by siblings, Betty Crenshaw and Ralph Huthmacher.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 13, 2023, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Goose Creek at 1:00 PM.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 13, 2023, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Goose Creek. Burial will follow at Whispering Pines Memorial Gardens, Moncks Corner, SC.
