Helen "Diane" Brawley, 68, of Granite City, IL died on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She was born on November 23, 1956 in Granite City, IL to Virgil Edwin Hughes, Jr and Helen Virginia (nee: Hall) Schneider. Diane married Ralph Brawley and he preceded her in death in 2017. The loving mother and grandmother was of the Christian faith and she was a member of Calvary Life Church in Granite City, IL. She enjoyed plants, gardening and fishing. Diane was involved in arts & crafts and she enjoyed stained glass along with crocheting. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Diane is survived by a son, Kelly Smith of Granite City; 5 grandchildren: Gabrielle (fiancé, Codie Henkel) Smith, Kelsi Coats, Daltyn Smith, Malia Smith and Kyler Smith and 2 great grandchildren: Sebastian Luna and Ignacio Luna. Also surviving are a brother, Dale Hughes of Edwardsville; 2 sisters: Darla Pilch of Granite City and Georgia (John) Rhodes of Caruthersville, MO; 8 nephews: Cliff Boker, Adam Boker, Jason Hughes, Sean Hughes, Cody Hughes, Randy (Angela) Pilch and great nephews: Landen Pilch, Cullen Pilch and Jameson Hughes and other great nephews and nieces. Besides her husband and parents, Diane is preceded in death by 2 brothers: Virgil Edwin Hughes III and Everett Timothy Hughes and a niece, Nicole Fischer. The family will have a memorial visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Calvary Life Church, 4650 Maryville Road, in Granite City, IL.
