Helen Cafero Obituary

Helen C. Cafero
Helen Rose Cafero of Norwalk passed peacefully at home on December 17, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was 99 years old.
Born in Bridgeport, CT on December 12, 1924, Helen was the youngest child of Leonard and Christine Capozziello. Helen enjoyed a happy childhood surrounded by the constant love of her parents, her brother, her two sisters, and dozens of Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.
Having graduated from Central High School in Bridgeport in 1942, Helen attended New Haven Teachers College to realize her dream of becoming a teacher. That dream was cut short when Helen's father and brother took ill, compelling her to return home to run the family business. She served as President of City Plumbing for 12 years and was a pioneer in the industry, which was dominated by men.
In 1955, Helen married the love of her life, Lawrence Cafero Sr., of Brooklyn, New York. Helen and Larry were a devoted couple for over sixty years and were blessed with two sons, Lawrence Jr. and Donald. Helen was predeceased by her husband Larry, who died in 2015 at the age of 94.
Throughout her adult life, Helen was a devoted wife, and loving mother. Helen's boys were the center of her world. She never missed a play, concert, or sporting event, and was infinitely proud of their accomplishments, big and small.
Additionally, Helen was extremely devoted to her Catholic faith and was a regular communicant at St. Matthew Church in Norwalk for over 60 years.
Above all, Helen lived for and unconditionally loved her family. In addition to her husband Larry, Helen is predeceased by her parents, Leonard and Christine, her siblings, Anthony Capozziello and his wife Gladys, Grace Oddie and her husband Joseph and Frances Inzerra and her husband Leonard, as well as her niece, Donna Jeanne Oddie and nephews Brian Capozelo, Byran Liberty and Benjamin Cafero.
Helen is survived by her sons, both of Norwalk, Lawrence Cafero, Jr. (Barbara) and Donald Cafero. In addition, Helen had six beloved grandchildren: Jacqueline Cafaro (Carl) of Wellesley, MA; Christopher Cafero and Nicholas Cafero, both of Los Angeles, CA; Donald Cafero, Jr. of New York City; and William Cafero and Robert Cafero, both of Westport, CT. Helen was also very blessed to have had two great-grandchildren, Carmelo and Siena Cafaro of Wellesley, MA, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 22nd at St Mathew Church, 216 Scribner Ave., Norwalk, immediately followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. There will be a reception immediately following Mass in the Great Room of St. Matthew's Church.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Helen's name to The Marvin for Seniors, 60 Gregory Blvd., Norwalk, CT, or https://underoneroofinc.networkforgood.com/.

I am so sorry to hear of Helen's passing. She was such a bright light and a wonderful woman. Don, you know I ALWAYS asked about her when we talked as she really touched my heart from the moment I met her. The care and concern you, your brother and your sons showed her was like no other. I don't think there was a more loving son and family, and she knew that and felt that everyday. In the end that's all that matters... to love and be loved! God bless her and you all during this difficult time. Sending love and prayers, Debbie

It was always a joy as a youth to see our principal of Ponus Ridge, Mr. Lawrence Cafero and his wife, Mrs. Helen Cafero at Sunday mass at St. Matthew's, and saying hello to them and remaining friends through college. Mrs. Cafero gave me a letter of recommendation to what had become Southern Connecticut State College, formerly New Haven State Teachers College. God bless your family, they blessed Norwalk.

Larry, Barbara, Donald and family.
So very sorry to learn of your mom's passing. I'm so very pleased she was able to enjoy her last few years as part of "The Marvin family". Great that she could be so close to all of her family.
It might have taken a while to get through the waiting list - but I am pleased we could help make her remaining years comfortable and meaningful.
Sending all my condolences.
