Helen I. Carlson

Helen I. Carlson, 87, of Wapakoneta, passed away 10:30 p.m., Sunday, Decmeber 14, 2025, at Wapakoneta Manor. She was born in Allen Co., the daughter of Eugene Stanley and Jessie Odesta (Gaull) Smart, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her step-father, Walter Thomas Burd. On June 8, 1995, she married Dale E. "Pinky" Carlson, and he died July 8, 2023.

4 children, Patricia (Lynne) Tingler, Wapakoneta,
Peggy Sue Deal, Spencerville, OH,
Frank Pierce (Cindy) Ickes, Bellefontaine, OH,
Shawn Allen (Peggy) Ickes, Wapakoneta;
17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren;
sister, Edith Pearl Doenges.

She was preceded in death by children, Pamela Jean Ickes, Robert Eugene Ickes, Donald William Ickes, a grandson, David Adam Deal, sister, Darlene Mae Klett, brother, Donald Eugene Smart, half-brother, Eugene Stanley Smart, and half-sisters, Ruth Eeller, Cathy Craft, Dorothy Tafline, and Jessie Louise Burd Monfort.
Helen worked a nurse's aide for 30 years. She was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #691, Wapakoneta. She enjoyed puzzles and watching old time westerns.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the Eley Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, with Pastor Mark Foor officiating. Burial is to follow in the Resthaven Memory Gardens, near Moulton, OH. The family will receive friends 10-11 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
