Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bedle Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Matawan on Oct. 17, 2025.
Helen V. Corrigan, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and tenacious spirit, passed away peacefully at her home in Howell, on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the age of 84. She was surrounded by the tremendous love of her family, extended family, and dear friends.
Born and raised in the South Bronx, New York, Helen carried the grit and grace of her hometown throughout her life. She was the youngest of six siblings, whom she loved and adored. Helen relocated to
Matawan, New Jersey, to start her own family, in a household built on love and her spirited energy. After raising her family, Helen settled into Spring Lake Heights, NJ, and continued to live life to its fullest.
A true fighter, Helen faced the challenges of her later years, including chemotherapy and radiation, recovery and Hospice Care, with unparalleled courage and grace. She displayed the true grit of a tough broad, proving that while you can take the lady out of the South Bronx, you can never take the South Bronx out of the lady.
Known by many affectionate nicknames-Wee-Wee, Sea Biscuit, The Hot Stepper-Helen was most proud to be known as Mom, Aunt Helen, and Grandma. Her greatest joy was her family. She was utterly grateful for her four children: John, James, Julie, and Helen. She delighted in her many nieces and nephews, their spouses, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and even had the pleasure of spending time with her great-nieces and nephews.
Helen's first love was always New York City. She attended Saint Rita's Elementary School and was a proud graduate of Cathedral High School of New York, associated with the infamous Saint Patrick's Cathedral.
Her next great love was sports. An unofficial "Warner Wolf" of the family, Helen passionately followed the Knicks, the Yankees, the New York Giants, and even cheered on the Jets and Bills. She never missed the Little League World Series, always following the backstories of the young athletes.
We cannot forget her love of the beach which started at the Bungalows in Rockaway, then to The Jersey Shore. Manasquan first, then finding solace in Spring Lake but it was the Point Pleasant Inlet that held her heart.
Saving the best for last; Helen loved a party! She loved going out to dinner or just having a seat at the bar with a tall Dewer's. She loved a decadent cake or simple jelly donuts. She loved celebrating with her family, including our Summer parties at home. She was beyond thrilled seeing so many familiar faces in our yard and loved staying up all night...literally!
So, please join us, in a final celebration, for our most loved Mom.
