Helen M. Durgan, 96, of Morrisonville passed away peacefully on Friday August 8, 2025, at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.
She was born in Plattsburgh on November 13, 1928, the daughter of Elmer and Mae (Doner) Ormsby.
Helen married Charles D. Durgan, February 6, 1946 in Morrisonville. She was employed with Champlain Valley Apple Storage in Peru for 25 years. She enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casino.
Left to cherish the memory of Helen are her two sons, Tony (Denise) Durgan Sr, and Gary Durgan Sr; one sister, Loretta Paynter; Grandsons, Tony Durgan Jr., Bill Durgan, Charlie (Missy) Durgan, Donald (Nicole) Durgan, Gary (Tiffany) Durgan Jr., Joseph Murphy; Granddaughters, Karen (Bruce) Moore, Terry Swol, Brenda Windel; Son-in-law, Paul Windel, Sister-in-law, Marjorie Durgan; Brother-in-law, Randy Nichols; several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was Predeceased by her husband Charles; her parents; daughter, Mary Windel; son, Joseph Durgan; great grandson, Nikolas William Durgan; three sisters, Mary Ryan, Caroline (Carrie) Riley and Judy Nichols; brothers and sister-in-law, Merton and Mary (Marie) Durgan, Mildred (Sal) and Lloyd Bassett, Leonard and Lita Durgan, Nellie and James Adams, Stephen and Ina Durgan, Helen and Robert Bailey, Guy Durgan, Marion Durgan, Susan and Charles Hanson, Ellen and Norm Barnhart, Thomas (Skip) Ryan, Lorrin (Mike) Riley, and Walter Paynter.
Helen's family wishes to thank the staff on the 4th floor for the kindness and wonderful care she received while a resident in Meadowbrook Nursing Home.
Donations in memory of Helen can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html or the Morrisonville Fire Department, 1927 NY-22B, Morrisonville, NY 12962.
A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at 10 AM in the Peasleeville Cemetery.
Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 518-643-9055.
