Helen Egan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Memorial Funeral Home - Fanwood on Dec. 31, 2025.
Helen Catherine Egan (née Murphy) passed away peacefully at her home in Scotch Plains on December 28, 2025, following a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 72 years old.
Helen was born in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan to Daniel and Jane Murphy, where she spent her childhood and developed a strong sense of family, independence, and perseverance that stayed with her throughout her life.
She met her husband, Jack Egan (John B. Egan), in 1978, and they were married in 1980. Together, they built a life rooted in love, commitment, and partnership. They raised their two children, Jack and Danielle, in Scotch Plains.
Helen earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Pace University and built a long and accomplished career in finance and accounting. She began her professional life in internal audit at JPMorgan and Bankers Trust, where she spent 14 years and became known for her strong work ethic and attention to detail. She later served as Controller at CCI for 15 years and concluded her career as a consultant with RGP. Throughout her career, Helen was respected for her integrity, diligence, and thoughtful approach to her work.
Above all else, Helen will be remembered for her strength, intelligence, and unwavering devotion to her family. She enjoyed traveling the world on cruises with her family and cherished weekends at the beach with her husband, Jack. She also took great pride in decorating her home, especially during the Christmas season, and loved hosting gatherings for family and friends. Helen had a lifelong love of shopping and found deep joy in watching her son compete in golf, her daughter in tennis, and her grandsons in ice hockey. She took great pride in her children and grandchildren and treasured the time spent with them.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Jane Murphy. She is survived by her beloved husband, Jack Egan (John B. Egan); her son, Jack Egan and his wife Erin; her daughter, Danielle Egan; her sister, Jane Murphy; and her three cherished grandsons, Jack, Michael, and Christopher.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 7:00–9:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue, Fanwood, New Jersey.
