Helen M. Harvey, age 94, passed away peacefully at her assisted living residence in Collingswood, NJ, on July 16, 2025. She was born in Philadelphia, Pa, November 14, 1930. Helen was a strong-willed, independent woman. She was a 1948 graduate of Ridley Park High School, and she worked for many years as a federally employed administrative assistant, at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard ("Mothball Fleet"), before retirement.
In earlier years, Helen was a prodigious baker of homemade cakes and cookies, for the delight of family. Helen was a big fan of QVC shopping, and she loved fine jewelry and perfumes. She also enjoyed cooking complete meals for herself each night, as well as tending to her plant beds at her Deptford, NJ home of 26 years, before moving to United Methodist Communities (UMC) – Collingswood, Assisted Living, in 2019. There, she made many friends among the dedicated nursing staff and aides. At age 89, Helen battled and defeated non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. A favorite pastime was watching her tv soaps and old westerns. She missed her long-time buddy and cousin, Rosemarie Kreh (DeVito), who predeceased her by two years. Recalling past family events, the cousin's luncheons, and keeping up with family news, were interests which lifted Helen's spirits.
Helen is survived by her cousin Frank, and his wife Janet, whom she appreciated and relied upon for her care since 2015. She is also survived by her loving cousins on the Grisi side of her family. Helen was predeceased by her mother, Constance Sweeney (Grisi), her step-father, Bill Sweeney, and her father, Tom Harvey. Special thanks to the many caring UMC staff, the recent Samaritan Hospice staff, and to Helen's super live-in caregiver, Adowa. Cremation is through Eichel Funeral Home, Pennsauken, NJ. A future inurnment niche will be located at Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, NJ. Donations, in Helen's memory, can be made online, to United Methodist Communities, Neptune, NJ.
