Helen Jamieson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory on Feb. 9, 2026.
Helen Josephine (Boyer) Jamieson, age 99, of Albia, IA, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia.

Helen was born on November 17, 1926, in Monroe County to Lloyd and Ruby (Rousseau) Boyer. She attended country school through 8th grade and then high school in Ottumwa and Albia. On June 17, 1946, she was united in marriage to Thomas "Stub" Jamieson and to this union, three children were born: Tom, Kay, and Gary.

Helen was a homemaker until her children were raised. Soon after her children completed school, she took various jobs until her husband hired her to work with him full time in bridge construction in addition to being his payroll clerk. Helen enjoyed many fishing trips to Minnesota, Canada, Alaska and back home in Iowa. They loved baseball and would travel to many states to attend games, she especially loved to watch the grandkids play sports. Following retirement, they enjoyed spending time with family and friends, attending their grandchildren's and great grandchildren's school activities, and traveling throughout the United States in their motor home (including Alaska). They especially enjoyed their winters in Laughlin, Nevada, where they had many friends and family members who came to visit.

Helen was a great cook and everyone looked forward to her homemade chicken & noodles and pies. She worked several years at Mom's Place in Albia as a cook (and sometimes had to be a waitress). She was always coming up with new recipes for people to enjoy.

Helen was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Helen is survived by her children, Tom (Kim) Jamieson, Kay Cosgrove (Don Hicklin), and Gary (Christina) Jamieson; 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Ruby Boyer; her husband, Tom "Stub" Jamieson; 4 sisters, Bernice Hawk, Marion Smith, Frances Neulieb, and Betty Boyer; 2 brothers, Clifford "Glen" Boyer and Robert Boyer in infancy; a granddaughter, Sabra Lynn Jamieson; and son-in-law, Craig Cosgrove.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Larry Bettis officiating. Burial will follow services at Oak View Cemetery in Albia. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until service time with Helen's family present to greet family and friends.
