Helen Marie Lamar, 103, transitioned peacefully to her heavenly home on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025 at Alamance Healthcare surrounded by her loving family.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late James Kelly Allred and Nettie Allen Oliver. Helen owned and operated a beauty salon in her home until she was 90 years old. She enjoyed the time she got to spend with her clients and many of them became lifelong friends. She was a longtime member of Fellowship Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She maintained a beautiful yard full of flowers from spring to fall and were admired by many. Helen delighted in spending time with her family
Helen is survived by her daughter, Shelia Murdock; her son, Charles M. Allen, Jr. (Grace); four grandchildren; Melanie Murdock (companion, David Penny), Jonathan Murdock (Angel), Tonya Keimig (Mark) and Chris Allen (Suzanne); eight great grandchildren, Heather Spence (companion, Matt Bagley), Maddie Murdock, Anna Murdock, Hannah Keimig, Lauren Keimig, Stephen Keimig, Harper Keimig and River Allen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John K. Lamar; first husband, Charles M. Allen, Sr.; son-in-law, Bill Murdock; her sisters; Nella Whittemore, Billie DeFord and Linda Weed; and a brother; Johnny Oliver.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Brittany at Alamance Healthcare for her loving and compassionate care of Helen during her time there. Our appreciation is also extended to AuthoraCare Hospice of Burlington, NC.
A service to celebrate Helen’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with the entombment to follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:45 PM Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorials be sent to Fellowship Baptist Church, 2744 Maple Ave., Burlington, NC 27215 or to AuthoraCare Hospice, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC.
