Helen Lowe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by All-States Cremation - Wheat Ridge on Jan. 9, 2026.
Helen Audrey Lowe, age 92, passed away on December 4, 2025, in Arvada, Colorado.

Helen was born on May 4, 1933, in Joplin, Missouri, to Warren Bruce and Nola May Williams. Her life changed forever the day she met her future husband, Jack Edward Lowe, at the Horseshoe Café where she was working. Jack, then employed at the Joplin Globe, stopped in to "see who the new girl was." His brand-new 1948 Ford convertible sealed the deal, and the two were married on September 27, 1949, in Bentonville, Arkansas. They went on to share 70 years of marriage - despite early predictions that it wouldn't last.

Helen attended Carl Junction High School, where she made history as the first sophomore ever crowned Homecoming Queen.

Shortly after marrying, Helen accepted the Lord and was baptized in the Neosho River, a moment she carried with her throughout her life.

Helen and Jack welcomed their first child, Cheryl May (Lowe) Orstead, on August 7, 1951. Their son, Jack Edward Lowe Jr., was born on January 15, 1953.

After a family vacation to Colorado, Helen and Jack decided it was the ideal place to raise their children. They sold the home Jack had built in Joplin, purchased a 52-foot travel trailer, and began a new chapter out west.

In 1962, Jack and Helen founded a business that continues today under the leadership of their son, daughter, and a third-generation nephew, Wade. During those early years, Jack worked days and weekends at The Denver Post while nurturing the fledgling company. The family settled in Coal Creek Canyon in 1960, where they lived in the same home for 60 years - a home Jack remodeled many times over.

After retirement, Helen and Jack spent six months each year in Mazatlán, Mexico, a place that became their second love. They enjoyed 25 years of retirement in this tropical haven, until travel became too difficult.

Jack preceded Helen in death in 2020, shortly before the pandemic. After his passing, Helen moved into Assisted Living and later Memory Care, where she lived the remainder of her life.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Lowe (Orstead), and husband Jim; grandchildren Eric James Orstead and wife Rhonda, and Jason Edward Orstead; great-grandchildren Wyatt James Orstead and wife Madelynn, and Audrey Katherine Orstead; and great-great-grandson Weston James Orstead.

She is also survived by her son, Jack Edward Lowe Jr.; grandchildren Nathan Wade Lowe and Emily Kay Gaudreau; and great-grandchildren Connor Grant Lowe, Corben Edward Lowe, and Nola Hope Gaudreau.

Helen is survived by her sister, Carol June Jewsbury. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Warren Williams, in 2003. She leaves behind a large and loving extended family, including many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held by family members in the spring, when both Jack and Helen will be interred at Golden Cemetery.
