Helen McCarthy

Our beloved Mother, Helen McCarthy, departed her earthly life on March 14, 2025, surrounded by her loving family in her home. Devoted mother of daughters Donna McCarthy and Moira Suarez and son-in-law Sam Suarez. Grandmother to Raena McCarthy (Dan), Robert McCarthy (Tracy), Samantha Pierre (Omar) and Dan McCarthy (Lisa). Great grandmother to Hunter, Meaghan, Erin and Caitlin. She is predeceased in death by her parents, Arnold Kroemer and Theresa Havida, and her husband, James M. McCarthy. Helen was born in Manhattan, NY on January 26, 1924. She enjoyed her years in NYC working various jobs until she met her beloved husband, James M. McCarthy. They moved to Staten Island, NY and lived in the Berry Homes where their two daughters were born. Helen worked for many years for the NYC Board of Education in the lunchroom at PS 52. She enjoyed her job of feeding many generations of students as she rose the ranks from kitchen helper to head cook. Helen enjoyed dancing as a young girl and also at the many Senior Centers that she belonged to. She was very independent and always a force to be reckoned with. She will be greatly missed by the many people who loved her.

Visitation will be at Hanley Funeral Home, 60 New Dorp Lane, Staten Island, NY on Tuesday, March 18th, 2025 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Mass will be said at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church on New Dorp Lane on Wednesday, March 19th at 11 AM. Private cremation to follow.
