Cherryville - Mrs. Helen Poole "Teety" McFarland, 86, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026 at Atrium Health - Cleveland in Shelby.

Helen was born on December 17, 1939 in Gaston County, NC a daughter of the late Harrison Poole and Annie Lail Poole. She was an inspector in textiles working for Varat Sportswear and Clar-Mar in Cherryville. Following her retirement, Helen enrolled in Cleveland Community College and received her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. Helen volunteered in the schools as a reading buddy and was also a volunteer for many years with the Cherryville Historical Museum. She was a member of Cherryville Missionary Methodist Church and the Cherryville American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 100.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lee "Pete" McFarland; a son, Jeffrey McFarland; a sister, Mozelle Blanton; two brothers, Roy Lail and Loyd Poole.

Survivors include her two daughters, Susan McFarland (Sharon) of Durham; Angie Hall and husband Jackie of Cherryville; a grandson, Daniel Hall and wife Kristen and one great grandson Nolan William Hall.

The family will receive friends from 12:45PM to 1:45PM on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00PM on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw officiating.

Burial will follow the service at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Belwood.

Memorials may be made to Cherryville Christian Fellowship 318 W. Ballard Street, Cherryville, NC 28021 or to any local Humane Society.
