Helen Gloria Scott Morris Helen Gloria Scott Morris, 84, of Palmyra, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2013, at the Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. She was born September 20, 1928, in Wildwood, Virginia , the daughter of the late Deacon Arthur Jones Scott and Ora Vaughn Scott. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George David Conrad Morris; and a sister, Ethel Scott White. Mrs. Morris was a devoted and active member of the St. James Baptist Church in Palmyra, Virginia. She was a graduate of S.C. Abrams High School in Palmyra, Virginia in 1945, and the Apex College of Beauty and Hairdressing in Richmond, Virginia in 1947. She was a hairdresser until 1967 and served the Fluvanna County School System in various capacities for 26 years, retiring in 1993. Mrs. Morris is survived by two sons, Arthur Conrad Morris of Palmyra, Virginia and Jerry Wayne Morris and wife, Ava Gardner Morris of Esmont, Virginia; one daughter, Aretha Morris Mays and husband, Worth Kennedy Mays of Leesburg, Virginia; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Marie Harris of Louisa, Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews; a special friend and devoted caregiver, Mrs. Shirley Porter; and many other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, August 23, 2013, at St. James Baptist Church in Palmyra, Virginia, with Pastor Karlos O. Johnson officiating.
