Helen Murphy Obituary
Helen Faye Murphy, 78 of Seymour passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. She was born August 14, 1947 in Arjay, Kentucky to Ed and Stella Spurlock Jones. She came to Indiana when she was about ten years old and her family made Seymour their home. Helen graduated from Seymour High School, class of 1967 and married Garland Murphy on January 18, 1975 and he survives. She managed Ray's Cleaners and Summit Cleaners as it is now known. She owned Murphy's Cleaning and worked along side her husband cleaning Seymour businesses for 23 years.
Helen was a member of the Church of God. She loved growing flowers and working in her yard. She also enjoyed traveling to the beach, the Smokey Mountains, and visiting new places that she had never been to before. She loved swinging on the porch with her family and just talking about the day. Her favorite things were going Christmas shopping with her husband, daughter, and grandchildren. Then going out to eat to celebrate their wonderful time together. She also loved cheering on her grandkids at their sporting events and their school events. Helen also loved to dress nice and pamper herself by getting her nails and hair done. You never seen her out without her hair fixed and her makeup on. She was the most kindest sweetest wife, mom, grandma, great grandma, sister, and aunt anyone could ask for.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Henry, Ray, Elmer, Jerry and Floyd Jones and her step-granddaughter, Ashley Sweany. Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband of 50 years, Garland Murphy of Seymour, her daughter Misty (Mark) Schocke of Vallonia, her step-daughter, Tracy (Ryan) Cable of Ohio, her sisters, Mildred Laws of Seymour and Eva Barker of Hebron, Kentucky, her grandchildren, Brittany Guthrie, Adam Schocke and Allie Schocke, step grandchild, JoVonne Sweany and great-grandsons, Atlas and Zate Guthrie.
