Helen O'Dea Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by O'Guinn Family Funeral Homes - Clio Chapel on Feb. 20, 2026.
O'DEA, Helen – of Clio, age 89, went peacefully home to be with her Lord on Thursday, February 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Monday, February 23, 2026, at SS Charles and Helena Catholic Church – 230 E. Vienna St., in Clio. Rev. Fr. Ken Coughlin celebrant. Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Sunday, February 22, 2026, from 3PM until 8PM and Monday at the church from 10AM until the time of Mass. A Rosary will be prayed at 7PM Sunday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to SS Charles and Helena Catholic Church, St. Luke N.E.W. Life Center, or the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.

Helen was born May 6, 1936, in Flint, to the late Leroy and Helen (Murray) Teahen. She graduated from St. Michael's Catholic School with the class of 1954 and worked as a phone operator for some time; however, she was most proud of her role as a stay-at-home mother raising her two beautiful children, Rose and Jim. Helen shared 56 years of marriage with her beloved husband, James. He preceded her in death on February 23, 2013. She was a longtime member of SS Charles and Helena Catholic Church where she was actively involved with the bible study, Council of Catholic Women, Ministry of the Homebound, and funeral luncheons. Helen enjoyed keeping her hands busy with crafting, sewing, and playing cards, and during the warmer months she liked to go golfing. She was known for her incredible baking and candy making – most especially for her caramel corn and infamous buckeyes. Helen's greatest joy, however, was her family. She was a remarkable woman who can never be replaced, and she will be dearly missed.

Helen is forever loved by: Children: Rose Marie (Deland) Pickelmann and Jim (Lorri) O'Dea; Grandchildren: Tyson, Kurt, and Garrit (Kristen) Pickelmann and James (Monique Taylor) and Colin (Addie Schaudt) O'Dea; Great Grandchildren: Skylar Wagle, Lennon Pickelmann, and Brooks Pickelmann; Sisters-in-law: Rita Teahen and Pat McGillen; Several nieces, nephews, extended family, and wonderful friends. Helen was preceded in death by: Husband, James; Parents, Roy and Helen; Siblings: Helen Jean Teahen, Joan Payne, Marnie French, Roy Teahen, and Peggy Brown.

The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the faith community at SS Charles & Helena for their prayers and support, the tender care received at Union Court Assisted Living of Chesaning and Amara Hospice during Helen's final days.
