Helen Phillips Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Farenga / Antonopoulos Funeral Home, Inc. on Dec. 30, 2025.
With profound love and deep sorrow, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Helen Phillips, who entered eternal rest at home at the age of 95.
Born in Cyprus, Helen came to this country at just 20 years old with only her mother by her side. Her father had left years earlier to work abroad and send money back home, and she had never met him. Upon arriving in this country, at the age of 20, she saw her father for the very first time. He recognized her by the white flower she wore on her dress, a tender and unforgettable moment that remained forever etched in her heart and beautifully reflected the love, sacrifice, and resilience that defined her life.
Alongside her beloved husband, Peter, Helen worked tirelessly to build a life rooted in faith, perseverance, and devotion to family. Together they created a loving home and a legacy that will live on for generations.
Helen was the proud mother of two children, her son Peter and her daughter Margie. She was the cherished grandmother of Christopher, Elena, Peter III, and Andrew, and the devoted great-grandmother of Mia, Nico, Eva, Zoe, Joanna, and baby Peter, all of whom were the joy and light of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross in Whitestone
A woman of deep faith, Helen loved her church and community and lived her life guided by kindness, humility, and compassion. She was truly an angel among us-special to everyone who had the blessing of knowing her. Beautiful both inside and out, she offered the best advice, the warmest hugs, and a listening heart that made everyone feel deeply loved and supported.
Though it was very difficult for her to leave this world, we find comfort knowing that God has called her home. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Peter, and surrounded by angels, resting in eternal peace.
Our beautiful mother Helen will be forever missed, lovingly remembered, and eternally cherished.

Mrs. Helen Phillips was a great low key force in rebuilding the Transfiguration Church after it was burned in the late 1980s. She inspired her husband the late Peter Phillips in helping rebuild the Church interior and always giving donations openly and anonymously.
She is a legend. She gave and wanted nothing in return. Her deep devotion to the Greek. Orthodox Church was her motivation. Everything
she did was influenced by her background in Cyprus, a deeply religious Greek Orthodox island.
In my viewpoint, Mrs. Phillips
was the godmother of the Transfiguration of Christ Greek Orthodox church in Mattituck because of her unselfish devotion, donations with her husband like Peter Phillips and always working behind the scenes to see the Church prosper. The Church is what it is today largely for Mrs Phillips stepping up with her husband Peter at the lowest moments of the community and inspiring them with their donations to rebuild the Church. Mrs. Helen Phillips was a woman of her Era. No one is irreplaceable. But I sincerely doubt I will ever meet a person in 2026 like Mrs. Helen Phillips.

Peter, deepest condolences to you and all the family on your loss. She sounded like such a wonderful lady. She raised a heck of a son, I'm sure she was quite proud.

Keeping you and yours in our thoughts and prayers.
