Helen Esquivel Quinn, age 90, passed away on August 27, 2025. She was born on
December 19,1934 in Silver City, NM to parents Ronaldo and Margarita (Santana)
Esquivel. She was the oldest of 14 children. She married Chuy Castaneda when she
was young, and they had ten children together. While raising the kids, she worked in
various restaurants cooking and serving. After they divorced, she moved to California
and worked as a caregiver in nursing homes where the residents adored her. Treasure
hunting in secondhand stores and finding pieces to gift to family members was
something she enjoyed after she retired. She also enjoyed spending time in the casino
where she always had the best luck and found friends all around her. It was a dream for
her when she returned to Arizona and had a perfect little home just across the street
from Casino Arizona where she could go enjoy her machines anytime she wanted. Her
house was always open to anyone who wanted to stop by and visit and she always had
a room ready, and a warm meal ready if you wanted to stay. She loved family and would
always send cards with the most beautiful handwriting.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Tencia Martinez, Maggie
Salazar, Mary Lou Bradford and brothers, Artie Tarango, P.T. Tarango and Bobbie
Esquivel. Also, her sons, Bebe Castaneda, Richard Castaneda, Willie Castaneda, Joey
Castaneda, and twin boys who passed at birth. Grandchildren, Eric Castaneda, April
Falquez and Bebe Castaneda.
She is survived by sisters, Connie Gonzales, Toni Silva, Phyllis Cordova, Libby Tarango
and Jenny Aguilar and brothers, Mingo and Joey Tarango. Sons, Jimmy Castaneda and
Ralph Castaneda. Daughters, Inez Drescher and Connie Erwin. There are 28
grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren along with
numerous nieces and nephews who will all miss her.
A celebration of Helen's life will be held Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 11:00am –
2:00pm at the Train Depot in Globe. Address is: 230 S. Broad St., Globe, AZ, 85501.
There will be a short informal service, lunch and a chance for anyone who would like to
share stories to do so.
