Helen Marie Roppel

Helen Marie McLaughlin entered this world on February 6, 1937, welcomed by her parents, Harry and Ada. She shared an unbreakable bond with her older sister Patricia, whose friendship remained a source of joy until Patricia's passing in July 1994. On February 23, 1963, Helen married George Roppel, beginning a love story that would span 42 beautiful years until George's death in 2005. Together they raised their son Jim, who married Suzette. Helen delighted in her role as grandmother to two beloved grandchildren. Her warmth extended to the entire family, where she was a cherished aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

Growing up on Chicago's northwest side, young Helen devoted herself to ballet, performing as a prima ballerina at the prestigious Civic Opera House.

Faith and community formed the cornerstone of Helen's life. As a dedicated member of St. Paul of the Cross, she never missed the 10:30 Sunday Mass, where she worshipped alongside dear friends. Though her involvement in the Queen of Peace Guild she organized monthly senior gatherings and numerous parish activities, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to serving others. Helen's generous spirit touched everyone she encountered, while her adventurous soul led her across the globe to Ireland, Europe, Egypt, and countless other destinations. Her professional life found her serving as Global Compliance Officer at CitiCorp, where she contributed her talents for 16 years.

Those blessed to know Helen remember a woman of exceptional grace; her striking blue eyes reflected the beauty of her spirit within. She treasured friendship, whether sharing an evening at the theater enjoying plays and musicals, gathering around tables for cards and mahjong, or simply savoring meaningful conversation. Helen's legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched with her kindness, faith, and joy.

Visitation, Friday, December 5, 2025, 9:00 until time of prayers, 11:30 am at Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, 120 S. Northwest Highway, Park Ridge, IL. The funeral will then proceed to Saint Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, 320 S Washington Street, (across the street from the funeral home), Park Ridge, IL, for a 12:00 pm Funeral Mass. Interment private
