Helen Davis Scott, 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at her home in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. A lifelong resident of Goodlettsville and Madison, she was born on October 4, 1938, to Arthur Carl and Estelle Nichols Davis. After graduating from Madison High School, she entered the workforce and later married the love of her life, Elmer Earl Scott.
Helen was employed with attorney Roe Fowlkes for several years before co-founding First Title and Escrow Company, Inc. with George E. Mudter, Jr. in 1979. She successfully operated the business until her retirement in 1999. A trailblazer in her industry, Helen was one of the first women to own her own title company. She mentored many who remain active in the business today. She was also an active Affiliate with the Women’s Council of Realtors and enjoyed contributing her creativity to fundraising events—from table decorations to themed setups for golf outings.
Outside of work, Helen found joy in antiquing with Earl, and she played a loving role in her extended family’s weddings—helping with everything from decorations and directing to food preparation for the reception. Earlier in life, she and Earl loved bowling and coaching Little League baseball. Later, they enjoyed spending time at their condos in Gatlinburg and Orange Beach, creating lasting memories with family.
Above all, Helen had a special love for her dogs. It began with Honey Sherrie, the poodle, followed by Buster, a stray who brought her comfort after Earl’s passing. Her final companion, Maizey Grace, was faithfully by her side to the end.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Earl Scott; her parents, Arthur Carl and Estelle Nichols Davis; her brother, Carl Davis; her sisters, Alma Davis Hutchison and Wilma Davis Bruce; her brothers-in-law, Harry Bruce, Robert Harris, and James Clinton Ford; and her nephew, Carl Davis.
She is survived by her brother Eugene Davis and his wife, Dewain; her sisters Evelyn Davis Harris and Carlene Davis Ford; 13 nieces and nephews who lovingly considered her their second mom; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends for a time of gathering and remembrance on Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home in Goodlettsville.
In honor of Helen’s love for animals, donations may be made to the National Humane Society—or better yet, adopt a dog.
