Aunt Helen's and Uncle Christ's home on Wisconsin Avenue in Milwaukee was a very special place for me. An invitation to dinner there would mean not only a sumptuous meal served by an elegant hostess, but a journey into Greek mythology, ancient Greek history, and tales of the hardships of the lives of immigrants to America. All of these stories Gerry and l basked in, enlivened even more my his grandmother's share of her experiences. Having left Milwaukee at a young age for Greece, where l yet reside, l missed my Vans relatives very much, and will never forget Aunt Helen's soft voice and her elegant speech, her exquisite taste in decorating their household with beautiful antiques, her genuine love and care for all those around her. Her many students will remember her, l'm sure, for all the knowledge she bestowed upon them, and l, too, consider myself among them, as l learned so much from her. My cousin Gerry was fortunate to have her as a mother, l know that she will be much missed by his wife and their children. I would like to close this with a Greek wish, , .
