Helen Marie (Jasinski) Walker, 87, passed away peacefully February 5, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 8,1938 to Anthony and Veronica (Bonic) Jasinski. Helen graduated from St. John’s High School in Goshen, New York in May of 1956 with high marks, particularly in mathematics. She went on to graduate from St. Catherine's Hospital nursing school in Brooklyn, NY in September 1959. Helen was a life long learner and wished to share her love of learning and nursing with others. Helen successfully added a certification to teach nursing to her resume and worked hard to share her knowledge at a vocational school in Goshen, New York.

Although New York was an important part of who she was, Helen later moved to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio to continue to raise her family and pursue a long and compassionate career as a nurse at Cuyahoga Falls General. After retiring, she moved to Brady Lake, Ohio to be closer to some of her beloved family members. Helen enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, attending live musical & dance performances, going out to eat, watching Days of Our Lives & Olympics figure skating and gymnastics. Helen served in many positions for the Order of the Amaranth, where she used her leadership skills to help raise funding and awareness of diabetes research. In conjunction with her husband’s membership to the Free Masons, Helen raised money and advocated for the Ohio Children’s Dyslexia Centers.

Helen loved her family, good food, and a great book. Shortly before her death she video called with her great grandchildren in New York, texted about her excited anticipation of the Olympic Opening Ceremony with her granddaughters, and enjoyed food from one of her favorite restaurants, Wild Goats in Kent, Ohio, with her local family. In 2025, Helen read The Women by Kristin Hannah, a story of a young nursing student who serves in the U.S Army Nurse Corps during the Vietnam War, twice, and planned to read it again in 2026. Helen recommended the book to anyone who would listen.

Helen was the true matriarch of her family. Her world famous potato salad was requested at every family and community event. She ensured special traditions like enjoying corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick’s Day and baking cookies during the holidays were always a top priority. She knitted blankets and scarves to keep those she loved warm and was a fan of gift giving–always looking to find something special for those special to her.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, John Walker; former husband, David Flannery Sr; brother, George Jasinski. She will be sadly missed by her children David Flannery (Lanna Martorana), Jackie (Jay) Soechting, Kevin (Jacqueline) Flannery; grandchildren, Joshua (Jenna Sheets) Sussen-Soechting, Victoria Soechting, Hannah Flannery Grant (Andrew Grant), Michael Soechting, Lydia Flannery (Tj Collier); great grand children Ares O Soechting, Adaline E Soechting; sister, Frances Jasinski Morales.

The family will have a celebration of Helen’s life when her preferred weather returns to Northeast Ohio. Those who wish may make a memorial donation in Helen’s name to the Kent Free Library where she spent many wonderful hours perusing the bookshelves.
