Helen M. Wertz

Tired of waiting for the Phillies to win a world series, Helen M. Wertz, 94, of Watsontown surrendered to father time on February 2, 2026.

Born on March 27, 1931, in Milton, PA, her parents Raymond and Myrtle Reedy had their hands full with Helen as their fourth of five children. Her father Raymond was often amused by Helen and her siblings; mother Myrtle was not.

Helen Reedy spent her school years in the Milton School District, and upon graduation worked at The Coup Agency in Milton. She met the love of her life Norman Wertz, while hanging out in Montgomery, PA in her late teens. Married on December 8, 1950, they enjoyed (and often annoyed) each other for 52 years until Norman's death in 2003.

They became parents with the birth of Cindy on November 20, 1954, and again on November 23, 1956, with Jerry. Helen and Norm gave their kids a great childhood, introducing them to sports and other activities where the entire family could participate together.

Helen worked for Milton Metals in the 1950s and 1960s, and then for Shippers Carline until her retirement in 1994.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents and husband, four siblings, Arlene (Ray) Specht, Evelyn (Donald) Shunk, Mary (Robert) Bruch and Ralph (Zana) Reedy.

She is survived by her children Cindy (Ted) Bear of Warren, PA, and Jerry (Barb) Wertz of Montoursville, PA. She also enjoyed three grandchildren, Scott (Charity) Miller of Watsontown, Todd (Danielle) Miller of Milton, PA, and Leslie (Derrick) Zechman of Danville, PA, three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, all of whom she adored.

Helen had a great sense of humor, shared lots of love, and made people laugh and smile.

Helen attended St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Milton.

A visitation will be held at Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St. Milton on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, Helen wants you to have a nice dinner with your family.
