Helen Louise Armsworthy Wilson
Jul 7, 1929 - Nov 12, 2025
ADVANCE - With one last, quiet breath, at home with family, Jesus lovingly took her home to spend eternity with Him and her family and friends who had gone on before.
Born July 7, 1929, Helen Louise Armsworthy Wilson was the oldest child of G.W.B. "Willie" and Stella Foster Armsworthy. There were three siblings that followed, Bill, Jerry, and Kaye. Kaye, born when Louise was 16, was especially loved like a daughter.
Raised in the Redland community during the time of the Great Depression by parents she adored, Louise learned the values of hard work; cooking, sewing, helping on the farm, caring for her siblings, and how to stretch a dollar from Redland to China to supply ones' needs, and the simple joys of faith, love, family, and home. These values molded her life.
Louise graduated from Mocksville High School (class of '47) and went to work at Western Electric company in Winston-Salem. There, she met, fell in love with, and married W. J. "Jim" Wilson in 1954. While it was sometimes not a fairy tale marriage, her overwhelming faith, love, loyalty, and commitment to the covenant shared made it perfect for them. They were married for 52 years until his passing in 2007.
They had two children, Mike in '55, and Cindy in '57. Louise stayed home to raise and spoil them till they were in middle school, then began a career with the school system. She worked as a cafeteria manager at Pinebrook and Shady Grove elementary schools for 27 years (back when food was "home cooked" and delicious), retiring at age 67 to spend more time with her family, especially her grandsons.
We called her many things over the years, Mom, Louise, Weezie, Weejie, and even Ethel Jane and Grambo (think deer hunter at age 80!). But when her first grandson, Matt, arrived, he gave her the name she loved and treasured for the last 40 years, Grannies.
Three things that always stood out about Louise were faith, family, and home. With the exception of a three year "adventure" living in Fla., she lived either in her homeplace or within sight of it and her siblings' homes. It was her haven, a place she'd rather be above any other.
She attended Smith Grove Church all her life, giving her heart to the Lord at the age of 10. She served God through singing at church and in a quartet and playing piano for others to sing.
And for Louise, love and family were just about the greatest gifts in life. She spent years caring for both her mother and sister during illness, often to the detriment of her own heath.
Louise battled health issues as well. A three time cancer survivor, back and joint issues, open heart surgery at 84 (that finally stopped her from bush hogging atop her tractor), and a final 18 month battle with cancer that was just too much at 96. None of it ever stopped her from smiling and caring for others first. Her last words, spoken faintly to a visitor, showed her true spirit:
"Thank you for coming to see me..."
Louise was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim Wilson; brother, Bill Armsworthy; sister, Kaye Armsworthy; and favorite aunt, Margaret Dunn. She is survived by her son, Mike Wilson (Hilary); daughter, Cindy Wilson; grandsons, Matt Wilson and Tanner Wilson (Maegan); great-grandchildren, Myles, Kelin and Kyle Wilson; brother, Jerry Armsworthy (Joann); sister-in-law, Peggy Armsworthy; and many other much loved relatives.
Services will be held Sunday, November 16, at 3 p.m., at Smith Grove Church, Hwy 158. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m., at the church, prior to the service. We welcome you to come share your love for Louise and a story or two.
In lieu of flowers or anything we ask that in the spirit of giving you'd consider donations to the Davie Pregnancy Center, P.O. Box 296, Mocksville, NC 27028 or Family Promise of Davie County, P.O. Box 1536, Mocksville, NC 27028.
Mom, this is not goodbye; just see you soon. We love you.
