Helene Gates Obituary
Born on Jan. 1, 1934, in Corinth, she was the daughter of the late Ross and Charlotte (Carpenter) Thew.
Helene enjoyed her crafts. Up until the moment she passed way, she was working on a gift for her doctor.
Helene worked at several local factories while raising her family. Her kids always came first in her life. Helene protected them, supported them and most of all loved them unconditionally.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sons, Ross "Butch" Gates and Edgar "Red Dog" Gates Jr. and her two sisters, Charlotte Raffle and Barbara Mallaney and her brother, John Thew.
Survivors include her children, James Gates of South Glens Falls, Myron J. Gates and his wife, Robyn, of Glens Falls, Ron Gates of South Glens Falls and Priscilla Tyner and her husband, Doug, of Selkirk; nine grandchildren, Nicholas Gates of Glens Falls, Benjamin Gates of Selkirk, Nicole Moffitt of South Glens Falls, Edgar T. Gates III of Hudson Falls, Matthew Gates of Hudson Falls, Staycia Gates of Hudson Falls, Tiffany Gates of Glens Falls, Leanne Tyner of Salem and Bethany Tyner of Florida; three great-grandchildren, Dylan and Joseph Sheerer and Hailey Anderson; her brothers, Ross "Joe" Thew and his wife, Joan, of Corinth; her sister, Ella Monroe of Glens Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Monday, July 9, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at the funeral home with the Rev. Flossie Gage Bates, officiating.
Burial will follow at Glens Falls Cemetery on Bay Street in Glens Falls.
The family suggests that memorial donations in Helene's memory be made to the Moreau Emergency Squad, Inc., 1583 state Route 9, Fort Edward, NY 12828 or Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Things have been rough lately but I know it will get better. You have some new great grandbabies and more on the way. Ben has a beautiful daughter you would love her! Even tho I don't get to see him you have a handsome great grandson too. The love of my life is having 2 more of your great grandbabies!!! Yup its twins!!! we miss you always -- i have to stop myself some days from picking up the phone to call you i hear your chuckle when myron and i are in a tiff you always seem to be near my heart knows your always there i just can't make my mind remember your gone in flesh like myron says it seems you have just been on a long vacation my mom is sick now and i pray if she leaves us as well the two of you will meet up and keep us close we love and miss you staycia is married now and our third grandson is due in june i feel sad you are not here for them to know you but we will tell them all about you when they are old enough -- time heals all but will never fill the void my heart feels often when im sad i just remember the day you caught the wooden screw driver in the canal at the old house you were surely excited and myron and i still have the silly thing until we see you again love ya me
