Hendrikus Bellen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Roan Family Funeral Home - Pembroke on Dec. 1, 2025.
Hendrikus "Harry" Bellen, 92 passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, November 27th, 2025 in his home in Manchester, NH after a short period of declining health.

Born in Blerick (Limburg) , Netherlands on August 20th, 1933, was the son of Wijnandus Aloysius Bellen and Maria Hendrika Engels. In 1957, he immigrated to the US for a career as a Tool and Die Maker and while en route to California he was redirected to New York City when his sponsor backed out unexpectedly. While in New York be began to teach himself to speak English and moved to Westfield, MA where he would later meet his wife of 55 years, Rita.

Harry became a naturalized US Citizen in 1986 and retired as supervisor in the manufacturing industry specializing on the aerospace, defense, and high technology markets. He also continued to own his own machine shop operation into his early 80's.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered at St. John the Baptist Church, helping out at church suppers and organizing the annual Penny Sale along with his wife prior to her passing. He relocated to Manchester and also volunteered at the Elliot Senior Center. He loved annual family vacations, fishing trips, and had an amazing gift of conversation. He also loved his frequent trips to Dunkin' Donuts and his time spent at St. Catherine Church. He had many friends at both of these places who admired him for his positive attitude, his bright smile, and his openness and willingness to be a friend to anyone who crossed his path.

He leaves behind his daughter, Karen Ellis of Concord; his son, Robert Bellen and son-in-law Scott Gauvin of Manchester; grandson Michael Harris, Jr. of Nottingham, NH and nieces, nephews, and great grand children. He is predeceased by his wife Rita Irene Bellen in 2015 in Pembroke; and daughter Patricia Jean Bellen in 1997.

A calling hour will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025 from 9AM to 10AM at St. John the Baptist Church, School Street, Allenstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held immediately beginning at 10AM. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, River Road, Allenstown. We consider ourselves privileged to have spent time with Harry. A quick wit, a bright smile and a lust for life.
He will be greatly missed.

Harry's smile was contagious. He was a truly genuine, great human being. I will miss him but his spirit lives on in all of us.

Dad, Scott and I loved and cared for you the past 10 years and as difficult as it got we never regretted having you live with us and your absence has left a profound loss. Give hugs to Mom and Patty and everyone already on the other side.
