Henrietta "Hennie" Theresa De Kam was born on August 27, 1941, in Orange City, Iowa. She was the oldest of six children born to Edward and Gertrude (Brouwer) Bouw. In 1942 her family moved to southwest Minnesota, where they lived on various farms. Hennie attended Magnolia School through the 10th grade. She was baptized and made profession of faith at Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota, MN.
On March 10, 1961, she was united in marriage to Elmer De Kam in Leota. In the early years of their marriage, Hennie worked at Campbell's Soup in Worthington. In 1969, they moved to Elmer's family farm, where she raised their two children, Wesley and Glenda, while also helping Elmer on the farm. After her children were grown, Hennie worked at Huisken Meats in Chandler and later as a CNA at Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton.
In 2008, Hennie and Elmer retired from farming and moved to Edgerton. During retirement, they enjoyed many bus tours, with Branson, MO, being a favorite destination. In 2010, Hennie was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. With the loving and faithful care of Elmer, she was able to remain at home until December 2021. She then moved to Edgebrook Care Center, where she passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025-one day shy of her 84th birthday.
Hennie was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton. She was active in Women's Bible Study and was always willing to serve at church and community events. She lived her life in faith, trusting in God's plan and relying on Him even as Parkinson's challenged her health and independence.
In her spare time, Hennie loved cooking and baking-her cookie jar was never without chocolate chip cookies. She also had a green thumb, tending to a large flower garden and creating beautiful flower pots each summer. Above all, her greatest joy was attending the events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her "Grandma Super G."
She is lovingly remembered by her two children and their families:
