Henry Edens Obituary

COLUMBIA - Graveside services for Henry H. “Bud� Edens, Jr. will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, The Rev. Robert G. Riegel officiating. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is in charge. Mr. Edens passed away February 2, 2009 after an extended illness. Born September 4, 1937, in Columbia, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Henry H. “Hap� Edens, Sr. and the late Jane Mason Gibbes Edens, of Columbia. Mr. Edens graduated from Dreher High School and attended the University of South in Sewanee, Tennessee, and the University of South Carolina. Mr. Edens was a retired successful professional real estate broker, having participated in over $50 million in sales. He previously served on the Board of Directors for the Northeast Community Association, was a past President and Vice President of the Green Springs Residents Association, and was a past Board Member of the Midland’s Center for Physically and Mentally Retarded – Boy Scout Troop. Until his illness precluded it, he was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army. After his retirement, Mr. Edens was a volunteer at Providence Hospital. Mr. Edens was an avid and quite proficient golfer, a dog lover and also enjoyed photography. He will be remembered by his family and his friends for his loyalty, warmth and generosity, and an engaging sense of humor. Surviving are his son The Rev. Henry H. “Chip� Edens, III, Rector of Christ Church (Episcopal) of Charlotte, North Carolina; sisters, Mason Gibbes Edens Hawley of Columbia, and Anne Edens Rainey of Camden; as well as three grandchildren, Rhett, Walker and Grey Edens. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Wildewood Downs Skilled Nursing for their compassion and care of Bud during his final illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Trinity Foundation for either its Endowment or Restoration Fund, 1100 Sumter Street, South Carolina 29201.
