ELDER HENRY LEONARD FREEMAN, JR.
January 1, 1932 - December 25, 2024 (age 92)
Elder Freeman went to eternal sleep on Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25, 2024, while a patient at Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center in Augusta, GA. He was born to the late Elsie Mae Woods Freeman and Henry Freeman, Sr. in Nashville, TN. He was the eldest of eight children born of this union.
As a child and young man, Henry attended school in Nashville, TN. After completing high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. Henry was united in marriage to his first wife, the late and beloved Lillian Tisdale Freeman on Saturday, April 16, 1955. Together they shared 19 years of bliss, and to this union, six children were born. On Friday, June 10, 1977, Henry was united in wedlock to Ernestine Hayes Freeman.
At an early age, he placed his faith and trust in Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and became a Seventh-day Adventist. He was later ordained as a Deacon at Eastside Seventh-day Adventist Church in Indianapolis, IN. He relocated to Norwood, GA in 1993 and soon became a member of the Wrens Seventh-day Adventist Church in Wrens, GA where he was ordained as an Elder. Elder Freeman assisted with organizing and opening the Canaan Heights Seventh-day Adventist Church in
Thomson, GA.
Henry was a hands-on type of guy. He enjoyed working on cars, computers, and construction. After many years in the workforce, Elder Freeman retired from Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and General Motors (GM) in 1993. In 1994, he and his wife became adoptive parents, and adopted ten children.
In addition to his first wife and his parents, he is preceded in death by two sons, Henry "Hank" Freeman, and David Freeman; a sister, Georgia Freeman; three brothers, Ronald Freeman, Danny Freeman, and Elmer Freeman; two grandchildren, Lillian Freeman, and Keith Freeman.He leaves to cherish many years of precious memories: a loving and devoted wife who shared 47 years and six months of holy matrimony, Ernestine Hayes Freeman; one daughter, Karen (Larry) Milton; three sons, Milton (Patricia) Freeman, Keith Freeman and Darrell Freeman; three stepchildren, Michelle (Eric) Gilbert, Dwayne (Tracee) Hayes and Wendell Hoskins; six adopted daughters, Octavia Freeman, Valerie Freeman, Helen Freeman, Aleceia Freeman, Shamekia Freeman and Shakiria (Brice) McGahee; four adopted sons, Demetris (Mahari) Freeman, Deandre Freeman, Jatavian Freeman and Antwan Freeman; forty-three grandchildren; fifty-three great-grandchildren; twenty-one great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Patricia (Pastor Oscar) Sherrod; three brothers, Pastor William Freeman, Raymond (Earlene) Freeman and Henry (Karen) Cooksey; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
