Henry Gendus Sr., 75, of Holmdel passed away unexpectedly on December 13, 2025 leaving behind a lifetime of love, devotion, and hard work. Born in
Brooklyn, New York, to the late Sam and Connie Gendus. Henry later made New Jersey his home, where he raised his family and built the life for them that he was so proud of.
Henry was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Eileen, lovingly known as Babe, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage. Their bond was the foundation of their family-one built on loyalty, resilience, and deep love. They loved their trips to Disney and sharing their Sunday snacks.
A proud father, Henry was preceded in death by his oldest son, Salvatore, whom he missed dearly. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia, and his son Henry and Kirsten, who were the light of his life. He was an adoring grandfather to his four cherished grandchildren: GiGi, Frankie, Vinny, and Anthony, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride. His loving sister Jeanne and many nieces and nephews.
Henry was the longtime owner of a large and beloved retail train store Island Trains and Train Store of New Jersey, a business that reflected his passion, precision, and strong work ethic. More than a store, it was a place of connection and community, where Henry shared his knowledge generously and made everyone feel welcome.
From an early age, Henry was a gifted pianist. Accepted into Guiliard, he went on to perform at concerts and major events also playing alongside famous musicians. The highlight of his music career was putting on many concerts for his family and friends in the piano room.
His favorite holiday was Christmas. He loved putting up the lights, decorating with his wife and ordering tons of gifts for his children and grandchildren. He made Christmas a grand event and his traditions will be carried on for many years to come.
Above all else, Henry loved his family. He was a steady presence, a protector, and a provider whose strength and kindness touched everyone who knew him. His legacy lives on in the family he built, the values he passed down, and the countless lives he impacted through his work and friendships.
Henry will be remembered for his dedication, his heart, and his unwavering love for his family. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 16 from 4pm – 8pm at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, December 17 at 11:00am at St. Gabriel Historic Church, Marlboro. Burial will follow at St. Gabriel Cemetery, Marlboro.
