Henry Ma-E Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sunset Funeral Home, Cremation Center & Cemetery on Feb. 7, 2026.
Henry Ma-E, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 5, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on August 25, 1939, in Hilo, Hawaii, Henry's life was a testament to the power of love, commitment, and service.

Henry's journey began as the beloved son of William Ma-E and Mabel Gomes. He grew up alongside his siblings William, Ester, Ala, and Johnny, all of whom preceded him in passing. His early years in Hawaii instilled in him a sense of adventure and the importance of ohana, or family, which remained central throughout his life.

After serving his country with distinction as a military paratrooper in the United States Army, Henry embarked on a long and successful career with Whirlpool, where he was known for his dedication and work ethic. His colleagues remember him as a man who brought not only skill but also warmth and camaraderie to the workplace.

Henry's heart was always fullest when he was surrounded by his family. He was a loving husband to his wife of over 61 years, Jacqueline Ma-E, and a guiding light to his children, Tedra Grisham and her spouse Tony, Leilani Ma-E and her spouse Ashley, Meko Ma-e, and the late Luwana Ma-E. His role as 'Grandpa' to Justin, Brandon, Lauren, Elizabeth, Zachery, Darrian, and Nakoa as well as to his eight great-grandchildren, was one he cherished deeply. His playful spirit and boundless love enriched their lives immeasurably.

Henry's interests were simple yet profound. He loved playing the lottery, a pastime that brought him excitement and joy. However, his true passion was spending time with his family. He was the cornerstone of family gatherings, his kindness and generosity creating an atmosphere of warmth and inclusivity. His family fondly remembers him as the most kind and generous man, whose legacy of love and selflessness will continue to inspire them.

Henry's life was a beautiful mosaic of service, family, and joy. His absence will be deeply felt by his many extended family members and friends, who were all touched by his gentle spirit and generous heart. As we bid farewell to Henry Ma-E, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a legacy that will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those he touched.

Henry's story does not end here, for his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. As we honor his journey, we take solace in the countless memories and the enduring love he shared with so many. Rest in peace, Henry Ma-E, and thank you for the immeasurable joy and love you brought into our world.
