Henry McMillan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 2, 2025.
On Sunday, August 31st, Henry McMillan's soul took flight, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter.

Born in Demorest, Georgia, on October 13, 1940, Henry was the son of John Curtis McMillan and Helen Herrick Ward McMillan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Helen H. McMillan Mitchell.

Henry is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Linda Hood McMillan, Son Mike (Allison) McMillan, daughter Susan McMillan Garrity, 3 grandchildren and 2 great grand children.

Henry graduated from South Habersham High School in 1958 and earned a degree from the University of Georgia's School of Journalism in 1964. He proudly served our country for eight years in the Naval Air Reserve.

Henry lived most of his life in White County, Georgia. Henry deeply loved the mountain life where he spent some of his happiest days hunting, fishing, golfing, riding horses and enjoying the company of those he loved most. He truly treasured his many friendships in the North Georgia mountains and was always thankful for the kindness and support of the community he called home.

In 1968, Henry and Linda founded the White County News, a newspaper that remains a vital part of our community to this day." A few years later, he launched Mountain Valley Realty. Over the course of his real estate career, Henry, alongside his business partner Davis Broadway, developed numerous residential communities and two campgrounds in White County.

Henry's favorite place in the world was his beloved farm on Town Creek. For many, it was the heart of family reunions, community gatherings, and lively celebrations-a place filled with laughter, friendship, and the quarter horses he loved most. What began as a family farm has now become Willow Creek Farm, a wedding venue that continues Henry's vision of bringing people together. Through it, his legacy of love, hospitality, and joy will carry on for generations to come.

Our family will be forever be grateful to the many friends who surrounded Henry with love and companionship-those who visited, picked him up for days spent with friends, took him out with his weekly lunch crew, sat with him for hours, and made sure he always stayed connected to the community he cherished.

Rather than flowers, please honor Henry by supporting efforts that bring peace and goodwill to our neighbors and the world.

In lieu of a funeral, Henry requested a "party at the barn". Friends and family are warmly invited to gather for a meal, music, fellowship and sharing memories at Willow Creek Farm on Sunday, September 14th. Please drop by any time in the afternoon starting at 3pm.
