The management (Eddie & Jackie Nelson) and the support staff of Nelson's Funeral Home sadly announce the passing of Mr. Henry Carthell Murphy,88, of Camden, South Carolina. Mr. Murphy passed Thursday, April 3, 2025.
Mr. Henry Carthell Murphy passed away peacefully after a long illness at the Springdale Healthcare Center in Camden, SC on Thursday, April 3, 2025. He was born in Lugoff, SC to the late Moses and Moddy Murphy on July 6, 1936. He was the 12th of 13 children.
Mr. Murphy was reared in Lugoff, SC and he was married to the late Mary Lou Tucker of Ridgeway, SC. They later moved to Columbia, SC and Mr. Murphy worked as a barber at Fort Jackson for many years. He later moved to Washington, D.C. where he opened his own barbershop. Mr. Murphy continued working at his barbershop until his retirement. After retiring, Mr. Murphy moved back to his hometown of Lugoff, SC.
Uncle Carthell, as he was called by his nieces and nephews, was the uncle that was always there for them. They were the children that he never had.
He leaves to cherish his memory one sister, Beulah Leaphart of Pittsburgh, PA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. His quiet spirit will be missed by all who know him. Uncle Carthell, sleep on and take your rest. We all love you.
Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by five brothers, Calvin, Lawrence, Paul, Franklin "FD," and Street Wiley; and six sisters, Maggie, Penny Ruth, Laura, Mary, Thelma, and Lillian.
