On January 21, 2026, Henry Harold Ross, joined his beloved wife, Virginia Maurine Ross, in the presence of God. He was 97 years old.

Harold was born in Comanche County, Texas, on July 12, 1928, to Ivan and Mryl Hodges Ross. He was the oldest of five children -- four boys and one girl. He attended school in Comanche County and graduated high school from Comyn High in 1945. There were 12 students in his graduating class; eight girls and four boys. Harold loved sports and played center on the six-man football team. He played baseball also. His family raised cattle and chickens and harvested watermelons, corn and peanuts.

Harold met the love of his life, Maurine Byrd, at the age of thirteen. Maurine was first on the school bus each day and saved Harold a seat. She was the only girl he ever dated. They were married on Maurine's birthday, January 8, 1946. They raised two sons and shared 68 wonderful years of marriage.

After Harold graduated from high school, he and Maurine moved to DeLeon, Texas, where he worked at a service station, then it was on to the oil fields of west Texas. In January, 1953, they moved to Dallas and Harold worked for Smith Perry Electric Company for several years. In 1959, he joined Summers Electric Company, where he remained for nearly 50 years, retiring in 2008.

In retirement, Harold lived a full and joyful life. He traveled the world with Maurine. He enjoyed raising cattle on his farm and took great pride in tending a garden each year so he could share his produce with family, friends and neighbors. He could spend hours driving his tractor in the pasture and loved being outdoors! Summer days and nights were often spent watching the Texas Rangers. Harold was a devoted fan of cherry pie and never missed a chance to play crazy canasta each week at Donna’s house with his church friends.

Harold was a dedicated member of Prairie Creek Baptist Church in Dallas for over 30 years, serving as both Trustee and Church Treasurer. After moving to Kaufman, he became an active member of First Baptist Kaufman, where he served proudly as a Deacon and was a faithful member for 42 years. He loved his Esther Sunday school class and faithfully lived by his Christian principles throughout his life.

Harold’s character was that of a truly kind, caring and gentle man. He loved his friends and family (especially his three great-grandsons) and always put others before himself. Life in God’s creation was a daily joy for him. The world could use more Harold Rosses.

Harold is survived by his brother W. C. “Red” Ross and wife, Mary Ann; son, Kenneth Ross; son, Keith Ross and wife, Debi; granddaughter, Natalie Baker and husband, Jason; Grandson, Ryan Ross; three great-grandsons: Briggs Morgan Baker, Duke Davidson Baker and Court Ross Baker. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Edwin Schell and wife, Linda; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
