Henry Donald (Jack) Ross, 99, of Forest, Virginia, passed away at home on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
He was the son of the late Henry Clay Ross and Juana Pinnix.
Henry was born on January 20, 1927, in Winston-Salem, NC. He attended school at Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, NC, then enlisted in the U.S Navy and after his separation from duty pursued his education at North Carolina State University in Nuclear Engineering and then worked for B&W for 40 plus years. Henry was a member of Bethany Methodist Church and the Ruritans. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
Henry is survived by his children, Jeffrey Ross and wife, Sandra of Goode and Ben Ross, Robin of Elon, and daughter-in-law, Kay Ross; five grandchildren, Brian and wife, Kristen of Cave Springs, Erin and husband, Seth of Pennington Gap, Cara and husband, Daniel of Pennington Gap, Clay of Goode, and Chad of Lynchburg and 14 great grandchildren, Landon, Jaelyn, Grady, Graham, Owen, Luca, Sydni, Nora, Caroline, Isla, Clayton, Laynie, Caid, and Hannah.
In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie and his son, Hank.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 1 to 3 pm at Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory, Lynchburg. A graveside service will be held on February 12, 2026, at 11 am at the Virginia Memorial Park by Rev. Phil Showers and Doctor Tom Thomas officiating.
His family extends special thanks to the dedicated caregivers at Heartland Hospice, especially Jill Wood, Chelsea Richardson, Jess Skoldol, Michelle Keutgen and John Moxley. We are eternally grateful for the two angels sent to us by God, Charmaine Bedlow and Deborah Dodson who provided his daily care.
