Henry John Schumacher, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 2, 2025 in Haysville North Carolina, after an extended illness. Born on April 8, 1941 in Sanford, Florida to the late Henry and Nelda Schumacher, Henry lived a full and hardworking life dedicated to family, friends and the land he loved. A lifelong Floridian until 2003, Henry spent much of his life farming-a career and calling that reflected his strong work ethic and deep respect for nature. He was a proud lover of his country, a man who valued integrity and service, and someone who found pleasure in the simple joys of the outdoors. Henry earned his pilot's license and enjoyed flying for both business and pleasure. When not in the sky, he loved spending time boating on the river and in the Gulf, as well as hunting and fishing-activities that brought him great happiness throughout his life. He was also an animal lover at heart and was never without pets by his side. Whether it was a loyal dog riding along on the farm or a cat curled up nearby at home, his animals were part of his family and constant companions throughout the years. Henry was a man who valued friendship deeply. He cherished the lifelong friends who stood by him through every season of life-sharing stories, laughter, and adventures that became treasured memories. His loyalty, humor, and generosity left a lasting mark on everyone privileged to call him a friend.
After retiring, Henry and Dee moved to North Carolina, where they enjoyed the tranquility of mountain living and the company of family and friends. His legacy is one of hard work, love, adventure, and devotion-to his family, his friends, his country, his animals, and the simple beauty of life well-lived.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Dee Schumacher, and his sister, Anne Esterson. Henry was also blessed with a loving blended family of five children-two by birth and three by marriage-and their spouses: Kurt Schumacher, Shauna Repetto and her husband Horacio, Kim Bougoulias and her husband Mike, Debbie Goff and her husband Ken, and Cindy Metz and her husband, Rod.
He was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren-Roman, Giovanni, and Giuliano Repetto; Michael and Mary Bougoulias; Emily and Evan Goff; Haley, Michael, and Steven Metz-and five great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy. He is also lovingly remembered by his niece and nephew, Kris and Ericka Esterson, who held a special place in his heart.
Henry will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and in the fields, skies, and waters he so dearly loved.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
