Henry Tyson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rhodes Funeral Home - Washington Avenue on Feb. 25, 2026.
Henry Lee "Red" Tyson, was born on March 18, 1938 in Marion County, Mississippi and departed this life on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

Henry (H.L.) was a special gift to the parentage of the late S.W. Tyson and Alyce Mai Coney Goff. Henry attended public school and was educated in Marion County. Soon after, he moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where in March 1965, he married the love of his life, Emma Jean Frelix Tyson.

He pursued a career in construction and became a Master Welder, graduating from Jefferson Parish Vocational Technical School. Henry was a member of the Ironworkers Local #58 and worked faithfully as the owner and operator of B&H Construction and a welder for Boh Brothers Construction for more than 35 years. As a dedicated member of the Woodchoppers Social Aid and Pleasure Club and the Fun Lovers Travel Club he loved life and never met a stranger. Mentorship and helping others were his passions. Henry enjoyed working with his hands and creating ornamental ironworks. He was a great cook and focused on caring for his family.

Henry accepted Christ at an early age at the China Grove Church in Kokomo, Mississippi. His fellowship with God led him to become a member and to worship at Holy Anointed House of Prayer under the leadership of Pastor Lionel Roberts, Sr. in New Orleans, Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Emma Jean Felix Tyson, his parents Alyce Mai Coney Goff and S.W. Tyson, and his brothers R.C and S.C. Tyson.

The memories of "Red" Tyson will be cherished by his daughters Tamika Elayna (Raymond) Duplessis and Ashlyn La-cha (Brandon) Ayler. He was the dedicated Grandfather of Raymond James, Collin Alexandre, Maison Jean-Henri and Alayna Janae Duplessis; Rachael Faith, Lauren Hope and Nathan Tyson Ayler. Sister-in-law Deborah Gail (Matthew) Pittman.

He is also survived by a devoted family friend, Cheryl Elaine Payne, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend Funeral Services at Holy Anointed House of Prayer located at 1447 Senate Street, New Orleans, LA 70122 on Saturday, February 28, 2026. Visitation begins at 9:00 AM. Service begins at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery 2050 Caton Street, New Orleans, LA 70122. Arrangements by D.W.
