Henry Dalton Ward

Henry Dalton Ward, born on March 12, 1957, in Pollocksville, NC to the late Oscar Ward, Sr. and Edna Daniels Ward. He departed this earthly world for his home in the sky January 24, 2026, peacefully at CarolinaEast Medical Center, New Bern, NC.

Henry attended J. W. Willie Elementary School, Jones Junior High School and was a graduate of Jones Senior High School Class of 1975. He wanted to further his education and attended Winston Salem State University but after one semester he returned home. He also wanted to try the military and enlisted into the U.S. Navy but after all that water, he decided the Navy wasn't for him. So instead, he entered the workforce.

He then worked for Askews, Inc., and McLawhorn Farms. Wanting a change of scenery, he started traveling long distance with James Edgeston on his tractor trailer. He went from Boston to Brooklyn, NY, where he resided for seven years. He then returned home to Pollocksville in the early 2000's. He was then employed by Charles Loftin where he worked in Masonry. Those were some of his best times because he would often talk about the good times they had. He also worked for McDonald's for a while along with other odd jobs until his health prevented him from working outside.

Besides his parents, he was proceeded in death by his 4 siblings: 2 sisters, Addie Ward Franks and Eva B. Ward and brothers, Jerald V. Ward, Sr. and James Rexcial Ward.

Henry will be remembered by his brothers, Oscar J. Ward, Jr. and Danny Ward of the home, Darrell Ward (Christena) and Tavaron Ward, Sr., of Pollocksville, NC and Dedric Ward, Sr. (Lanetra) of Hope Mills, NC; his sisters, Dorothy Clinton of Rhode Island, Andrea Moore (Herman) of Maysville, NC and Dominque Ward of Charlotte, NC;

siblings of the heart, The Gaskill, Edgeston and Duncan families, Edith Humphrey, Michael Sinclair and Felicia D. Cooper; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and a special niece, Shona Ward.

Henry will be truly missed by all who encountered him.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday February 12, 2026, 1:00 pm at Free Will Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 3298 NC Highway 58 Pollocksville, NC, 28573. Interment will follow the service at the cemetery on the church grounds.
