Henry Thomas Wright, 103, of High Point, NC, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service, love, and warmth that touched countless lives.

Born in High Point, North Carolina, Henry's life was one of adventure and service. His journey took him from his beloved hometown to the battlefields of World War II, where he served proudly in the U.S. Army in the European Theater of Operations for 20 months, participating in four campaigns. As a Construction Foreman, Henry supervised crews of up to 15 men in building critical pontoon and Bailey bridges, maintaining heavy construction equipment, and ensuring clean drinking water for troops. His leadership and technical skills proved invaluable to the war effort. After the war, his path led him to New York City, where he dedicated his career to protecting and serving others as a New York City Police Detective. His time abroad also included living in France, adding to the rich tapestry of experiences that shaped his character.

On May 16, 1964, Henry married Marie Catherine Britto, beginning a beautiful 55-year partnership filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. Marie preceded him in death in January 2020, and their enduring love story became an inspiration to all who knew them.

During his distinguished career, Henry served as a New York City Police Detective for 20 years, receiving awards for his dedicated service to the community. His commitment to protecting and serving others was a hallmark of his character both in and out of uniform.

Those who knew Henry will remember him as a man who always had a smile on his face and a genuine love for bringing family together. He had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. Henry could often be found enjoying good food and conversation at J&S Cafeteria, one of his favorite local gathering places, or taking pride in driving his fine automobiles around town.

At 103 years old, Henry lived through remarkable changes in our world, from the Great Depression through the digital age, always maintaining his positive outlook and zest for life. His longevity was matched only by his capacity for love and his dedication to family.

Henry is survived by his younger sister, Pearl Yvonne Wright, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews who will forever treasure the memories of family gatherings, his warm hospitality, and the special way he made each of them feel loved and important.

A memorial service celebrating Henry's extraordinary life will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Saint Christopher's Episcopal Church in High Point, NC. A repass will follow immediately after the service in the church parish hall, where family and friends are invited to share memories and celebrate Henry's remarkable journey.
