Herbert Daniel Wheeler was born December 13, 1935, in Cresco, Iowa, son of Herbert and Maude (McGawn) Wheeler.
Herbert married Marion Alcott on March 4, 1954, in Waterloo. He worked in the power plant at Rath for 25 years. Herbert then went on to work at UNI in the power plant, later in maintenance. He enjoyed fishing, canoeing and camping. Herbert was very handy around the house with plumbing and electrical, he could fix anything. He was a member of Grace Reformed Church in Waterloo, where he was a Deacon and also helped with maintenance.
Herbert passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at his home at the age of 90. He is preceded in death by his parents and two grandsons, Larry and Blake Wheeler. Herbert is survived by his wife, Marion of Waterloo; son, Bob (Sheila) Wheeler of Waterloo; daughter, Tina Thomas of Surfside Beach, South Carolina; a foster daughter, Alva Hamann of Maynard, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, several great and great-great-grandchildren and his furry companion, Peanut.
