Herbert Gene Cole

Herbert G. Cole, 94, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026 at HSHS St John's Hospital in Springfield, IL. Herb was born in Mechanicsburg on January 13, 1931, the son of Charles and Hattie (Hancock) Cole. He married Dorothy Pagel on October 15, 1952 and together they shared 73 years of marriage, and had four children. Herb served his country in the US Army from 1951-1953. After that he began working at Caterpillar as a Line Supervisor, retiring from there after 30 years.
Herb enjoyed hunting, fishing, and photography.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Alan Cole; three brothers, George, Charles and Bob Cole; and one sister, Loretta Stanley.
Herb is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, David and Michael Cole and Debbie (George) Fleck; grandchildren, Ashley, Ethan, Natalie and Emily; great grandchildren, Hannah and Hudson; and one brother, John Cole as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation well be held from 4:00-6:00PM on Friday, January 9, 2026 at Fullenwider-Park Funeral Home, 200 S. Church St. in Mechanicsburg. Private family services will follow the visitation.
Memorial donations in Herb's honor may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
