Mr Herbert Robert Crimp III

Herbert Robert Crimp, known to friends and family as "Herb," passed away on December 23, 2024, at the age of 69. Born on March 9, 1955, in Los Angeles, California, Herb grew up in Anaheim, CA where he was known for his fun-loving and humorous personality. From an early age, the sport of wrestling played a big role in Herbs life. He won numerous high school titles and chose to wrestle at the University of Utah, where he earned a bachelors degree.
He later earned a masters degree from Bemidji State University and launched a career defined by service and teaching. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 15 years, specializing in nuclear and electrical engineering. His time in the Navy took him across the globe. After serving in the military, he pursued careers in both entrepreneurship and education. He combined his expertise and passion as an HVAC instructor, teaching at the high school and community college levels, while also running his own business.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Grace Crimp. Herb is survived by his wife of 14 years, Betty Crimp, his sister Wendy Crimp, and his three sons: Herb (wife, Melissa), Michael (wife, Anne), and Brian Crimp.
The last decade of Herbs life was spent in New Bern, North Carolina, where he embraced the local sailing, ballroom dancing, and shag dancing communities. His sailboat, "5 Pieces," reflected his adventurous spirit and his love for the sea. Herb was a regular fixture on the dance floor, where his talent for shag dancing brought him many friends and awards.
In addition to his nautical and dancing pursuits, Herb had a passion for coaching high school wrestling. Over the years, he mentored countless young athletes in Virginia, Michigan, and North Carolina, even leading teams to state championships. His impact as a coach went beyond the mat, as he instilled values of discipline, resilience, and confidence in every wrestler he worked with.
A private ceremony for the family will be held in Roanoke, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the U.S. Wrestling Foundation in memory of Herb Crimp.
