Herbert Millington Davis III, born March 31, 1957, passed away while suddenly in Alaska on July 10, 2025. Herbert, better known as "Chip", was born and raised in Weston, MA. He was the son of the late Herbert M Davis, Jr and Mildred (Shaw) Davis of Weston, MA.
Chip graduated from Weston High School in 1975 and continued his education at Miami University in Oxford, OH. He had a full scholarship where he excelled in Track and Field. Chip was training for the decathlon in the 1984 summer Olympics, when he got the call that his father was ill, and he went home to take care of his mother. That was the type of son he was.
Years later, Chip moved to Dallas Texas, where he co-owned an insurance company. He lived there for 10 years before moving back to Weston, MA. He truly missed the four seasons of New England. He was an avid skier and couldn't wait to hit the slopes! It was there in Waterville Valley, NH he met the love of his life, Mary E Lynch. Years later, they married and raised their family there for 22 years.
Chip's greatest joy in life was boating. He spent his summers on Lake Winnipesaukee since he was a baby. Nothing gave him greater joy, than visiting his sister Laurie and her husband Jim at the lake house. He also loved Cape Cod. He just loved being on or near the water!
In fact, in later years, Chip worked for Westshore Marine on Newfound Lake, NH, selling boats. He absolutely loved going to work in his shorts and flip flops. He would say "I have the best job in the world!". He would work summers there and go to his home in The Villages, Florida in the winter months where he loved to play golf. Chip fully retired in 2021, and divided his time between his home in Falmouth, MA and Florida. Chip loved his family more than anything. He surprised his family with a trip of a lifetime of an Alaskan cruise. He was so happy to have all his children together.
He leaves behind his wife and soulmate of 30 years, Mary E Davis. He was the proud father to Herbert "Miles" Davis IV, his wife, Christiana of Westboro, MA. Connor J. Davis, of Dover, NH and his daughter Brooke C Davis, of Manchester, NH. He was the brother to his beloved sister and brother-in-law, Laurie and James Gambee of NH and NY, Suzanne and Richard Devlin of Wayland, MA, nieces Sarah ( husband Christopher) Mounsey of Longmeadow, MA. and Elizabeth Gambee of New York, Marissa Devlin of Watertown, MA. and Katherine Devlin of Telluride, CO.
Chip was larger than life and had many wonderful cousins and friends. You never missed Chip walking into a room as he stood 6"5" tall. He had such a great sense of humor. Always willing to lend a helping hand. He could fix and build anything. Mary saw to it that he kept busy with their many real estate ventures together. His funniest saying was "Enough about me, what do YOU think about me?"
Funeral arrangements will be made at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Autism Society of America/ www.autismsociety.org
