Herbert Herman Henke of Westfield joined his Lord and Savior on his 95th birthday, March 6, 2026. He was born on March 6, 1931 in the Town of Springfield to Herman and Ella (Wobschal) Henke. Herb was baptized on April 3, 1931 and confirmed on August 6, 1944, both by Rev. O.L. Messerschmidt. He graduated from Westfield High School. Herb joined the Army and served his country from 1956 – 1958. He worked on the family farm in Westfield, drove milk truck part time for 20 years and worked for the U.S. Postal Service delivering mail for 20 years from 1985-2005.
Herb was a member of Springfield Immanuel Lutheran Church and a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Westfield. He was a man of God and shared that with his family and friends always. Herb also shared his love of God by visiting shut-ins and sharing communion with them. He carried the crucifix for many church services and funerals.
Herb enjoyed spending time with his family and friends socializing, making horseradish, fishing, building bird houses for Blue Birds and placing them throughout the Town of Springfield and Newton. He loved to volunteer at Orphan Grain Train, work in his garden attending to his vegetables and flowers and watching his favorite teams play which included the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and Wisconsin Badgers.
Herb was known by all as a happy, gentle and hard-working man. His kind words will be missed by many.
Herb is survived by his brother, Norbert (Jo Ann) Henke; three nephews, Byron (Brenda), Bruce (Allison) and Bradley (Julie) Henke; niece, Bonnie (Doug) Drew; many great nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; aunt, Alvina (Herman) Jahnke and great nephew, Tyler Henke.
A funeral service for Herb will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Westfield with Rev. Jesse Davis and Rev. Rodney Armon officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Springfield. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Thank you to all that sent Herb get well and birthday cards and who kept him in their prayers. Thank you to Pastor Davis and Pastor Armon for their support and to the staff and nurses at Heartland House and ThedaCare Medical Center-Wild Rose.
