Herbert Langreck

Herbert John Langreck, 90, of Hawkeye, Iowa died Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Community Memorial Hospital, Sumner, Iowa. He was born July 28, 1933 to Anton and Anna (Meinert) Langreck on the family farm near St. Lucas, Iowa. Herbert attended St. Luke's Catholic School, St. Lucas, Iowa. After Herbert's father died Herbert helped farm the family farm. He was then drafted into the United States Navy serving from 1955 until 1961.
Herbert was united in marriage to the love of his life Arlene Frances Schaufenbuel on April 21, 1958 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler. Five children were born to this union. He was a farmer his entire life, but started farming near Clermont for about 3 years then moved to a farm near Hawkeye in December of 1961 and lived there until 2002 when moved to Hawkeye. Herbert belonged to Holy Name Catholic Church of West Union and St. Francis Xavier of Hawkeye, where he was a very active member. He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting and following the Chicago cubs and Chicago bears. Listening to polka music and playing cards, loved to restore Farmall tractors, and hanging out with the neighbors Bill Robbinson, John Lalk and Wayne Gibbs. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Herbert is survived by his children, Dale (Gwyn) Langreck of Waucoma, Alan (Kathy) Langreck of Fayette, Carol Ann Langreck of Hawkeye and Debra (Kim) Weidemann of West Union; six grandchildren, Ryan (Jennifer) Langreck, Austin Langreck, Dylan Langreck, Nicole (Greg) Kuennen, Nathan (Karlee) Weidemann and Chrystal Peyton; six great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Pamela Langreck; sister, JoAnn Brincks of Plymouth; brothers, Edwin (Helen) Langreck of Ft. Atkinson, Anthony (LuAnn) Langreck of Ossian, David (Mary) Langreck of West Union and Duane (Kathy) Langreck of Hawkeye and several nieces and nephews.
Herbert was preceded in death by the love of his life, Arlene on July 3, 2023; a son, Randy and his parents, Anton and Anna Langreck; brother, Alvin, and sisters, Antonia and Ida; brothers-in-law, Linus and John, and sister-in-law, Lila.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 9, 2024 from 4-7 pm with a Rosary at 3:45 pm at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, West Union, Iowa with a visitation one hour before Mass at the church on Monday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Monday, June 10, 2024 at Holy Name Catholic Church, West Union, Iowa with Father Ralph Davis as the celebrant.
Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, West Union, Iowa.
