Herbert W. Munsterman of New Baltimore, MI former resident of Harper Woods, MI passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025 at the age of 96.
Herbert was born in Detroit, MI on March 19, 1929 to the late Wilhelm and Elizabeth Munsterman. While in high school, through their church, Herbert met the love of his life, Freda. After graduation he entered the Henry Ford Trade School in Dearborn, MI, completed his training in 1948 and immediately enlisted in the Army. During his time in the Army, he became a Corporal and served during the Korean War.
When Herbert returned from the war, he began his career as an Interior Design Engineer for General Motors in Warren, MI, and married his high school sweetheart, Freda, and started building their family together. During his 30 plus years with General Motors, Herbert found a second calling with the New Apostolic Church in Sterling Heights, MI where he served as a minister for over 40 years.
His many interests and activities included jewelry making, baking (cookies and cannolis were his specialties), and most of all spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He will be missed by his surviving family members which include his beloved wife of 72 years, Freda; his daughters, Bonnie Dula (Wayne), and Cheryl Hecht (Reinhard); sons, Gregg (Rita) and Mark (Carolyn); grandchildren, Marc Dula (Nicole), Matthew Dula (Megan), Bethany Rocha (Torrey), Michelle Lindstedt (Joshua), Danielle Stonebraker (Blake), David Hecht (Brooke), Christopher Munsterman (Nicole), Emily Munsterman, Jeremy Munsterman (Amelia), Alyssa Gogola (Greg), and Sara Lorenz (Brandon); and 18 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elisabeth Burmeister.
A funeral service will take place at 11am on Saturday, September 20th at the New Apostolic Church, 37800 Utica Rd, Sterling Heights.
A private committal service at Great Lakes National Cemetery will take place at a later date.
