Herbert Raderer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Owen Funeral Home - Dixie Highway on Jan. 10, 2024.
Herbert Carl Raderer, 98, died suddenly but peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 6, 2024. He was born in Louisville on September 9th, 1925, to Henry Carl and Minnie Adam Raderer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannie Rogers Raderer and his brothers Art and Richard. He is survived by his children Sam and Marcie Raderer, Linda and Charles Leanhart and Mary Lee Simpson. He is also survived by his grandchildren Brian and Kyla Leanhart, Todd and Wende Raderer, Krista and Kyle Ward, Nikki and Jason Gregory and Ellie and Alex Sherman, eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Memories of a lifetime were created when Herb and Jeannie built their house on Nolin Lake. The three brothers and their families worked together to create the Raderer legacy at Nolin.
Herb was a kind, giving person who never met a stranger. He loved to tell a good story, usually resulting in great laughter from his audience. His final act of giving was to donate his body to the University of Louisville School of Medicine.
Herbert was a proud alumnus of duPont Manual High School. He served in the US Army in World War II. He was a loyal employee of Henry Vogt Machine Company for 45 years. Herb participated in one of the first Honor Flights to Washington, DC in 2009 and he made another flight in 2018; Herb happily and proudly served as an Honor Flight Bluegrass Ambassador.
Herb was a devoted member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ serving as board member, president and elder for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Order (Falls City Lodge 376 and Willis Stewart Lodge 224), Scottish Rite, Kosair Shrine and Royal Order of Jesters.
Herb was a Ford Oval of Honor recipient in honor of his service to his country. He also received an honorary Doctor of Arts Humane Letters Degree from Vineyard Place Biblical Seminary.
The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Ponder Creek Retirement Community for supporting and loving our Dad.
Herb's Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 20th at St. Stephen United Church of Christ. 1875 Farnsley Road at 4 PM. The family will gather at 2:30 to welcome friends. For those wanting to honor Herb's life, the family suggests that contributions in Herb's memory be made to St. Stephen UCC, the church he loved.
